Avalanche report on the situation for the Bavarian alpine region Tuesday, 24.02.2009, 07:30 clock Above 1400m large avalanche danger. An avalanche release is already probable during small auxiliary load, e.g. by an individual ski driver or Snowboarder. Isolated also automatic releases of partially large loose snow and snow board avalanches are possible.

Evaluation of the avalanche danger: In the Bavarian alpine region 1400m exists a large avalanche danger above. Below 1400m is to be called the avalanche situation substantial. Danger places, in which avalanches can be released, are in freshly in-blown slope zones and combnear steep rock slopes of all slope directions as well as in drive-snow-filled gutters and hollows. In these ranges a release of snow board avalanches is already probable during small auxiliary load, e.g. by an individual ski driver or Snowboarder. Superficially released snow board avalanches can pierce on deeper weak layers and lead to the release of large snow board avalanches. Above the forest border automatic releases of loose snow and snow board avalanches are possible from strongly drive-snow-loaded catchment areas isolate, which can pierce on deeper layers and lead to large avalanches. Locally are endangered slope near traffic and walking ways. In deeper situations wet snow avalanches are possible due to the increasing moisture penetration, which glide on smooth meadow slopes and from forests at the ground.

Snow covers: In the Bavarian alpine region 20-30 cm fell, even in parts up to 40 cm new-fallen snow since yesterday spread. Strong wind from northwest led above 1400m to new, extensive accumulations of impulse snow, in which trouble-prone intermediate layers are stored. Below 1400m became increasingly damp the Snow covers. In all altitudes the snow cover foundation consists of a loose swimming snow layer. References and tendency: For the next days changeful weather is announced. The avalanche situation will only slowly relax. Enterprises off secured runways require caution and lawinenkundliches evaluation ability.
