So, yesterday afternoon, quietly minding my own business and a flash flood warning pops up on GR for the Piceance Creek area about 20 miles sw of me. I know this area can get really messed up if heavy rains hit. I looked at radar and loops and saw a lone cell parked over target area for nearly two hours. Rainfall estimates at 3" and hail to be pea-size. Line was moving east but another was forming to the west about 80 miles.
Left house about 4:15 pm and headed south on Highway 13 to CR 5. Headed west on CR 5 and encountered first evidence at about milemarker 12. Rain pretty much ended by now but hillsides seriously unstable. Road was closed between mm 12 and mm 18 and some vehicles stranded between slides.
Continued west and encountered heavier flood area and hail zone. Shot some video for fun. Returned home at about 9:30 pm.
No injuries or damage to cars.
