PostSubject: 1 May 2009 violent Thunderstorms in NDS (lower saxony)   Fri May 01, 2009 5:22 am

Fr, 01.05.2009 April ended with thunderstorms Local tempest with heavy rain The unusually warm month April ended in some regions of Germany with violent thunderstorms. These had developed already in the afternoon at the warm northeast side for days of an air mass border lying over Germany. In the evening hours then particularly developed over Lower Saxony some very strong thunderstorm cells, which caused hail impact and heavy rain. For the season the lightning rate of these thunderstorms was impressing high.

North of Hanover it flashed occasionally in the 1-second pulse, however in the hour between 20 and 21 o'clock Germany far about 3000 unloadings were registered. In the Goettingen southof Lower Saxony starting from 18 o'clock flash flood rain and hail impact to numerous fire-brigade employments had already led. Many roads in the city and in the line valley stood for water under water, numerous cellars ran fully.

It came to several lightning strikes into houses, thus the roof framing of a specialized market for animal food came into flames. Also from the southern district Fulda were announced against 17 o'clock 30 hail impact, heavy rain and filled cellars. Already the day before a heavy thunderstorm in district the duchy Lauenburg and Stormarn had given much work to the task forces of the fire-brigade. In the southern Holstein, for example in well-being peat, it hailed on 29 April so strongly, which was meters highly covered with hail partly according to press reports a rapid-transit railway underpass one and a half there. In Reinbek a storage hall and the cellars of various houses stood under water. The thunderstorm weather conditions are not yet completely past. While it remains calm in the today's evening in the north, then locally again strong, possibly tempest-pregnant thunderstorm cells can particularly form in South Germany.
