The heavy winter Storm " Klaus" with gusts up to 170 kilometers per hour in Southern France devastating damages caused. For millions humans the current supply broke down. Roofs were taken off and many trees downt.

Bordeaux. The airports of Bordeaux and Toulouse became closed and the course and traffic fallow spaciously together. Météo France compared the storm with the devastating gale " Lothar" , which was swept in December 1999 over far areas of west and Central Europe, under it also Switzerland. The regional expansion is however smaller.

According to data of the power supplier EDF broke down the current supply of 1.2 million households. In the Département of country was 90 per cent of all inhabitants without electricity. The Präfekt proclaimed the state of emergency in the forest-rich area south of Bordeaux. " We advise to go out of the house and car to all private individuals against too fahren" , the prefecture explained. Several courses with hundreds passengers stopped. The red cross sent aides, in order to supply stranded travelers. There were the largest problems however on the circle and regional roads.

Torn off branches, down trees and electricity pylons blocked many connections. The important Aquitanien bridge for traffic were closed. EDF released its emergency plan for the atomic power plant Blaye northeast the airbus metropolis Toulouse. It is done everything, in order to prevent an inundation, it was said. The four reactors worked normally. In the Pyrenees winter sports mechanisms were closed. The storm pulled slowly over Southern France eastward and moved toward north Italy.

It is talks of several dead ones.
